Vs. 88 — Revive me according to Your lovingkindness, So that I may keep the testimony of Your mouth.

Charles H. Spurgeon:

We look to the lovingkindness of God as the source of spiritual revival, and we entreat the Lord to quicken us, not according to our deserts, but after the boundless energy of his grace. What a blessed word is this “lovingkindness.” Take it to pieces, and admire its double force of love. (Spurgeon, C. H. (2009). The treasury of David: Psalms 111-119 (Vol. 5, p. 307). Bellingham, WA: Logos Bible Software.)

Prayer:

Revive me according to Your lovingkindness, so that I may keep the testimony of Your mouth. Father, I do not ask for anything, including a quickening of my soul, to be based on my lovingkindness or goodness. Far be it; ever! For surely that would result in absolutely nothing, to say the least. But act according to Your lovingkindness. Stir my heart with fondness and zeal for Christ Jesus. Stir up faith and humility within me with the intent that I may follow my Him. Give me that goal, and may my heart be fixed as such.
